Spring Athletics Spotlight: Men’s Volleyball
Bulldogs are family, on and off the court. We caught up with middle/blocker hitter and outside hitter Christian Sayue ’24, a Biology major, middle and outside hitter Corey Jackson ’25, an Athletic Coaching and Recreation Management major, and outside hitter/libero Joey Medeiros ’25, a Sport Management major to learn more about their experiences on the men’s volleyball team.
Q: What is your favorite thing about being on your team?
Joey: “My favorite thing about being on the men’s volleyball team is the bond that we have created. The team has turned into a family where everyone has each other’s back and no one feels alone on the court.”
Christian: “My favorite thing about being on my team is the coaching staff – they are motivational and are great coaches – and also my teammates.”
Corey: “The fun jokes and laughs we share during practice and games. We always keep a positive energy going.”
Q: How has your experience as a student-athlete shaped your Dean experience?
Joey: “My experience as a student-athlete has definitely shaped my Dean experience. The way it has shaped my experience most is in the day-to-day life, as having good time management skills is important to ensure you find time to study, practice and relax.”
Christian: “As a student-athlete, it helps me to carry myself in a responsible manner and being a proud Bulldog.”
Corey: “Just learning to work with others and play as one.”
Q: What is your favorite thing about Dean?
Joey: “My favorite thing about Dean is the people – from the staff who are always helpful and kind, to the friends that I have made and had plenty of fun times with.”
Christian: “My favorite things about Dean are the right amount of attention I get from the faculty when I’m in need of assistance and the Biology Journal Club.”
Corey: “My favorite thing is how everyone knows everyone. Everyone is a family here.”
Q: What have you been most excited about this season?
Joey: “This season I am most excited for the home games. The atmosphere of home games is thrilling and one of the best parts about playing sports.”
Christian: “I'm excited about my team being able to make it to the playoffs this season.”
Corey: “Learning more about the sport and getting better.”
