Now Playing: Arts Mosaic

The Joan Phelps Palladino School of Dance and the School of the Arts celebrates the diversity of the arts on the Dean College campus with Arts Mosaic, featuring select student works integrating dance, theatre, music, film and much more. Arts Mosaic opens tonight at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee and evening performance on Saturday.

Adrianna Hirn ’23, a Dance major with a concentration in Choreography and a minor in Sociology, shared a behind-the-scenes look at the preparation and creation of the show. As a dancer in three different pieces for Arts Mosaic, she’s been rehearsing weekly, participating in tech week to work on spacing, lighting and a complete run-through of the show, and is excited for the audience to finally see what they’ve been preparing.

“I am most excited for the audience to see the diversity of the styles we are presenting,” Adrianna said. “This show is multidisciplinary, and it allows the audience to experience various emotions and ideas. It also challenges the audience to think intellectually on top of artistically in order to have a broader understanding of each piece.”

Another aspect that makes the show distinctive is the physical way it is presented. Rather than the traditional Main Stage setup, Arts Mosaic takes place in the Guidrey Center for a more unique, intimate connection with the audience.

“My favorite part about this show is the location,” Adrianna explained. “We take a large studio space and turn it into a Blackbox by building in wings, lighting, and a raised seating area for the audience. It is such a unique space that allows for a truly beautiful show that I get to perform in with some of my best friends.”

The Dean College production of Arts Mosaic will take place in the Guidrey Center in the Dr. Paula M. Rooney Student Center at Dean College, 109 West Central Street, Franklin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5, as well as 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
