The hybrid courses at Dean College are designed to fit into the busy schedules of non-traditional students, as well as traditional ones who have a lot to balance along with school. Consisting of a mixture of time spent in the classroom attending lectures and turning in assignments and online components that can be done (before the deadlines, of course) on the student's own time, these courses are ideal for those who work full time, take care of family members and more.

Wondering if one of these hybrid courses would better suit your schedule? Here's an overview of a week in the life of a Dean College student taking a hybrid class. Take a look and see if this is something that sounds beneficial for your educational journey.

Monday

A week in the life of a Dean College student attending a hybrid class starts out like most, waking up at 6:00 a.m. in order to be at work at 8:00 a.m. After a long workday (with lunchtime spent running errands), the student prepares to get to the Dean College campus, so they can attend the weekly in-person session of their hybrid course. The course lasts from 6:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. every Monday, so it's the only time of the week that they need to be on campus. After class, which is spent listening to a lecture, taking notes and asking questions about an upcoming assignment, they eat a quick snack and get ready to head home to start the day all over again tomorrow.

Tuesday

After yet another workday (again, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), the student arrives home. They take care of some family obligations, such as cooking dinner and taking the kids to the playground, and then settle in to get some studying done. Since the online component of the hybrid class involves three hours of out-of-the-classroom work, they spend the evening reading their textbook, reviewing their notes from yesterday and getting a head start on that upcoming assignment.

Wednesday

Today after work is very much the same as yesterday, with one difference. Rather than eating dinner at home, the student goes out to eat with their family, enjoying a little time at a child-friendly restaurant that hits the spot. After getting home from dinner, they participate in the nightly bedtime ritual with their children before going to sleep themselves.

Thursday

The online hybrid course that the student is taking through Dean College is broken into modules. Each module needs to be completed within that same week. This week, there's an online lecture and an initial discussion post to do, so they get started on the post (using material from the lecture earlier in the week), and prepare to watch the lecture tomorrow.

Friday

Yes, Friday may signal the end of the work week, but for people who also attend college at the same time, the work isn't quite finished yet. The student hops onto the online module for their hybrid course after eating dinner and watches the recorded lecture, taking notes at the same time. Then they download some of the supplemental readings and get ready to tackle them over the weekend.

Saturday and Sunday

The weekend is spent doing a variety of tasks. The student reads the supplemental materials, looks over their notes and works on the newly assigned project in between spending time with family, doing chores and running errands.

It's a busy life, but taking a hybrid course allows you time to get your coursework done and still spend time with your family (without spending all week on campus). The Dean College instructors also understand that “life happens,” and they work with you to help you reach your educational goals while still juggling everything else on your plate.
